Charles Louis Pubereaux (Sainte Foy) by Bingham
Charles-Louis Pubereaux, stage name “Sainte-Foy” (1817-1877); French tenor.
He made his debut in 1839 at the Opéra-Comique in Hérold’s “Le pré aux clercs”. At the end of his career he had performed at the Opéra-Comique over a 100 different rôles (of which 60 premières). Of his premières the best known nowadays are:
Meyerbeer’s “Dinorah” (1859), Auber’s “Le premier jour de bonheur” (1865) and
Offenbach’s “Robinson Crusoé” (1867) and “Vert-vert” (1869).
