The Pont de Brotonne

The Pont de Brotonne
Another fine bridge across the river Seine in Normandy. Situated between the cities of Le Havre and Rouen.
See PiP
The bridge built in 1977 is a cable-stayed bridge (specifically of the fan design), whose principal span reaches 320 metres and is made of prestressed concrete. It was considered an engineering feat and was the first bridge of this type in the world. Its height above the water is 50m and its full width is: 1,278 metres

Thanks so much Jaap for your very quick viewing here. You were so quick that I had not finished putting my alternative PiP in place. I hope you get a chance to see it.

Thanks Keith. There were four bridges, all impressive in this small region of Normandy. I always wanted to get photos of great bridges but hardly ever come across them and here we have these. Hope you managed to see the PiP too.

Hi Herb,

This is impressive, especially when the Pip is looked at. Not being a civil engineer, I am amazed at how this was ever constructed.
You certainly seem to be having a lot of nice pics back from your holiday!

Best Wishes

Thanks for another call Peter. Yes another fine bridge in this area. I saw a documentary on one bridge like this being build and it was built mainly off-site then the concrete sections dropped into place. However I think too that there are many ways of doing this and the traditional one was always to pour the concrete into steel reinforcement wooden frames on site then the frames removed. So your guess is as good as mine. Glad you like it though.
