Are thy really converging or it this just your well chosen POV? The old bridge is really lovely but the "new" one isn't bad either:-)

They do converge, Gudrun, but the old bridge can only be traversed on foot or push bike. The 'new' bridge does look quite elegant too, I agree.

Its good that they converge, makes for a great picture.

The convergence is because the road has been straightened, Doug. It carried Telford's Holyhead Road across the river Severn. It's now a Grade: II English heritage building since: 17 February 1985.

This looks familiar to me Amelia. Is it near Attingham Park? If so, we were going to stop and take a better look but sadly the weather was against us. Cheers, Rosa.

You must have crossed the new road bridge just before the entrance to Attingham Park, Rosa. There is a layby on the right hand side of the road that you can pull into to look at both bridges if you don't want to visit Attingham again, and (more importantly) there is a nice hotel where one can have yet another cup of coffee. ;-)
