Icking Ski Jump

I have taken pictures of it before: the referee tower standing on the slope where once brave young men made their jumps in winter -when winters still brought snow, and Icking still attracted visitors.

It's of no use anymore, and I probably like it better now than I would have done sixty years ago.

Thank you, Sara! I’ve seen a film of a ski jump contest held here, and pictures of trains full of people who stopped at our station to go skiing. Now the trains are populated mainly by a bunch of commuters who happen not to have scooters...

Proof of global warming? Like the churches and villages of the UK's east coast which have long disappeared under the North Sea, I love this kind of story. It shows that much of what man thinks is immutable, is in reality just transient..

A great swathe of green too! Obviously the wood-worms are not to aggressive in Icking! :-)

Keespro replies:
Statistics are deceptive, but global warming seems to be a fact. The last few winters, we had very little snow, and there was hardly a chance even of cross-country skiing (langlauf). On the other hand, mobility has soared since, and people nowadays prefer going to Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Austria, where snow still is abundant.
I’ve never been inside the tower, but doubt if it’s safe: we’re not situated high enough to be avoided by obnoxious insects. (Thus he spoke, and scratched himself.)
