Tin processing

Tin processing
Images taken on the tour through the tin processing works at the former Geevor mine. It's easy to imagine what a noisy and dusty environment this must have been when it was working. The ore containing the tin had to be ground down (this image) to a powder for the tin to be separated out. Of course, the luxurious lunch room facility provided a retreat for the workers (second PiP).

Explored.

Totally interesting presentation, George. Thanks for the pictures and information, I did have to laugh when I saw the lunchroom...though I prepared myself for eminent tomfoolery, which you delivered in spades! :D I will see what I can do about replying down the road with pictures of mines over here for you to see! :)

P.S. Glad you enjoyed the kalimba presentation and music link!

When those mines were working it must have seemed they would be there forever. Yet many will have vanished without trace Good that it's still possible to get an idea of what they were like. Love the luxurious lunch room.

Such an interesting series George. What a hard life they must have had. At least the lunch room was a respite from the back breaking work.

And, of course, Cornwall had been a source of tin since the Bronze Age. _Sic transit_... etc.

Lots of Cornish miners emigrated to the Mother Lode in California (and other places too, I'm sure) in the 19th century. Things must've been pretty grim for that to seem an attractive option!

Wonderful series of photos that only just hint at what a hard life the miners had.
