Coming in

Coming in
More tourists arriving on the daily aircraft (some days there are more). The number of tourists on the island is capped at a maximum of 400. That's the end of the very short runway for the small airport to the left - when I flew there in 1974 (see my album "Flying Boat Days") the runway was incomplete and this was the last flying boat service in the world. This musical link seems to fit. Taken from a kayak. :-)

I love the idea that the number of tourists are capped, George. keeps everything exclusive. Perfect music for the landings.

Thanks, Amelia. It's also very much about minimising the environmental effects - the island is World Heritage listed.

Kayakography! That ois one well-composed landscape. I love the line of the hills.

Thanks, John. Kayakography has its own challenges, such as keeping the heading while taking photos in a strong crosswind. :-)

Sounds so beautiful

I always have wanted to go on a flying boat.

I know Dad went on Catalina's a couple of times.

This must be one of the "interesting" airports in the world :-)

I'd say it is Gudrun. Only about 860M, so very limited in aircraft types and even then weight limited.

Greetings!
This has me feeling quite emotional; am really enjoying reminiscing.
My partner and I spent our honeymoon there in 1963 ... as well as the flying boat our trip from Sydney to Melbourne was in what I then thought the most beautiful aircraft ... the Electra
:)

You'd probably find that it's generally fairly little changed since 63. The old flying boats and Electras were way more comfortable than modern aircraft.

It well warrants a spot on your list, Gillian. Just be aware that you'll need to book far ahead - our booking was five months to the first available spot!
