Aurora over Mawson Station

Aurora over Mawson Station
We're about to head away on travels in the next few days and now are in 'final preparations'. It's likely that I'll be (at the most) an occasional visitor for the next five weeks. First stop is Singapore, then points further north - who knows, we may even see an aurora! My thanks to the ipernity friends who have kindly given advice for our travels and best wishes to all here for the coming weeks.

This image was first loaded to ipernity shortly after I joined and now is updated (view large on black). From an old 1966 slide (160 ISO Ektachrome , Minolta SR1, Minolta Auto Rokkor 58/1.4) taken at Mawson Station, Antarctica. Looking toward the SW, with snow drifts beside the huts - the kitchen/mess to the left and the radio shack to the right with the bright light. All these buildings have now gone as the station has been rebuilt.

Joel Dinda, Annalia S., Petar Bojić, and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

This is fantastic, one of the most beautiful things I ever saw, I had a 20mn northern lights very intensive dance in Leknes last week, I think I will never forget...

Holy cow such an incredible sight, George!! Absolutely breathtaking!! Thank you for bringing it forward in your stream so we can all enjoy it! (I have been taking the opportunity to use archive pictures in my insets so that people can see more of my older stuff...it's a cool trick, isn't it?!) :)

Thanks, Steve. These were on show every clear evening, it reached the stage where we didn't even go outside to look unless someone said it was a good one! Hope your trip has gone well, we're now at the stage of looking forward to not living out of bags. :-)

Many thanks, Janet. Although it's been great to see auroras again on this trip, they haven't been as spectacular as those I saw down south. Then again, we had a whole year of them to choose from! Yes, digging out some of my "bulk import" photos from when I joined ipernity ,seems a good idea, otherwise nobody is even aware of them.
