Kingston Lacy House.

Kingston Lacy House.
The chandelier is in the music hall and the organ pipes can be seen on the left in the picture below.

DSC 1390 - Copy

Kingston Lacy House ~ In the 17th century the Bankes family lived at Corfe Castle until its destruction at the end of the English Civil War (1642-1651). The family, who were supporters of King Charles I, found themselves on the losing side. Deprived of their castle, the family owned some 8000 acres of the surrounding Dorset countryside, including the Kingston Lacy Estate, which is where they moved to. It was their eldest son Ralph Bankes who built the present house between 1663 and 1665 as the location of their new family seat.

Kingston Lacy is the 'richest ever gift' to the National Trust. The 8,500-acre estate is part of the 16,000-acre Bankes estate that was bequeathed in 1981 by Henry John 'Ralph' Bankes, including all its content.

Thank you Nouchet. It seems that Mr Bankes could not afford the property any longer, or it may have been due to inheritance tax. Now the National Trust need our yearly memberships to keep all of their properties maintained. The volunteers inside the house are so knowledgeable. I learnt a lot yesterday :-)

I hope you also have an enjoyable evening Nouchet.

An imposing and beautiful piece of architecture which you've captured superbly Rosa. The grey sky actually sets off the colour of the stonework perfectly and I love the surrounding greenery.

A gorgeous chandelier in the PiP.......which is perfectly exposed.........although I can't help thinking it reminds me of a certain scene involving Del Boy, Grandad and Rodney :-)))

Thank you very much Keith. It's the first time I have entered this house by the front door! They have timed entries now, which works well. The weather actually brightened up later, thankfully.

Funny you should mention that Keith! I did mention it to the volunteer in that room, and we did have a laugh about it. One of the funniest clips ever :-)) It was filmed in Clayesmore School, Iwerne Minster, near Shaftesbury. I only found that out recently!

Glad you enjoyed the video clip.............absolute genius.

I hardly used my membership for a couple of years Herb, but trying to make up for it now. Kingston Lacy has some beautiful forest walks as well as the house, which lead to the River Stour, if you walk far enough :) Thanks for your kind comment and I hope you have a good Sunday.
Cheers, Rosa.

That is one formidable edifice, Rosa. The front façade, right down to the porte-cochère, is magnificent. The chandelier reminds me of Del Boy, Rodney and Granddad. LOL. I hope you are having a great weekend. All the best, Joe

Hi Nick, I don't mind the link at all. I would have also visited Badbury Rings, but stayed at the house and gardens for longer than expected, as the weather improved greatly :-) Next time though! I love that avenue of trees, they still look magnificent.

Muy buena fotografía de la arquitectura de la hermosa casa, comenzando con un encuadre perfecto para que la fotografía recoja el frontal y un lateral de bello edificio. La lámpara del PiP es una joya clásica. Buen domingo, Rosa.

Thank you for your very kind comment. Although I have often walked around the gardens of this house and the forests around it, I hadn't visited the actual house for many years. It was very enjoyable, with volunteers in each of the rooms with superb knowledge of the paintings and the family.

I must apologize for my lack of visits, Rosa. Your new photos never seem to appear on my news page so I assume that you are away on holiday.

It's between Blandford and Wimborne Amelia and has the wonderful avenue of beeches along that road. Don't worry about the visits. A couple of people have also told me that. I have the same problem with some of my contacts, and when I take a look, they have added many pictures!
Have a good long weekend!
