There is a myth about why the flowers of F.imperialis has flowers that nod: In Iranian folklore the nodding flowers are described (in comparison with the upright flowers of tulips) as being 'upside-down', this curious posture being attributed to the plant's bowing its (originally upright) 'head' in sorrow upon the death of a mythological or religious personage. So in the Christian religion the flowers nod at Easter time in shame. An interesting myth about these stunning flowers.

A wonderful flower Rosalyn you certainly had your monies worth I have never tried to grow them I know of one garden locally that has them, Cambridge Botanic Garden is a good place to see them
