Wincanton Memorial Hall

Wincanton Memorial Hall
This place brings back great memories of the dances every Saturday night in the late 60's, early 70's. The highlight of our week!

DSC 0103

The War Memorial next to the hall with the inscription, "When you go home tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today."

A lovely building. The curved roof reminds me a little of Nissen huts which is in keeping with the memorial. I think the soldiers would have approved of the Saturday dances and the enjoyment they brought.

Yes it does Jean. Surprisingly spacious inside. The dances always ended with the same two, the Gay Gordon, which everyone got on the dance floor for, and the final smoochy song, which some sat down for! All ended just before midnight and we were all home in good time.

A lovely composition, Rosa, with great juxtaposition of curves and straight lines. The Union Flag adds a nice wee splash of colour. Cheers, Joe

Thank you for your kind comments Joe. I was telling Jean that the dances always ended with the Gay Gordon and a slow smoochy song. Nothing was open when the dances finished, so we all got home at a reasonable time! Cheers, Rosa.

Excellent composition and lovely images Rosa, the building is very much a 1960s design.

Thank you posting your image in the group

J'imagine ce beau moment passé agrémenté avec une belle danse et je suis certain que la soirée se termine merveilleusement bien avec une douce et lente chanson ..!
Le mémorial est vraiment remarquable et bien présenté.
Bonne soirée Rosa.

What a wild life you used to lead Rosa :-))

I agree with Jean about the Nissen hut look...............and it looks like it's been renovated and extended over the years. A lovely image, especially in the sunshine and with the Union Flag up the pole. Great memories!

A lovely memorial image in the PiP as well.

I hope you've had a lovely weekend. Enjoy your Sunday evening.

Ha ha, great memories of the 60's Keith....but I can remember them :)

The building has been very well looked after and until this year and its limitations, was very well used. The Sunday walk was so good, as I only normally visit the High Street, so it was a bit of a walk down memory lane, and I bumped into an old neighbour and chatted for about an hour!

Many thanks for your great comments and I hope you have had a good weekend too.

Un paseo que dio sus frutos, como en estas fotos, volviendo a los recuerdos del pasado que endulza el amargo presente. Precioso escrito en recuerdo de los que dieron sus vidas por el porvenir de otros. Feliz domingo Rosa.

A lovely old hall with distinct and appropriate overtones of Nissen huts. Also a few memories of dances. :-)

Thank you George. I'm not sure when it was built but it must have been shortly after WWII. The lovely man that was always on the door was actually German. He was always very cheerful.

Hi Rosa

A very nice picture, which, as others have said, looks like an army hut from the war..

Late 60's ... MMM I was still in school then!!

Best Wishes, a nice week, and stay safe!!
Peter

Hi Peter,
It must have been built very cheaply after WWII but has been well maintained and used ever since.

You're a youngster then Peter!

Best wishes,
Rosa.
