Schöner in Echt, doch es muss ja eine Erinnerung geben

Katja, genau! Wenn das letzte Poleis geschmolzen ist und die Regenwälder alle abgeholzt sind, also so in 20 Jahren, wollen wir unseren Enkelkindern doch noch zeigen können, was da alles für Tiere unsere Erde bevölkert hatten.

Es ist schon traurig... zu wissen, das all diese Tiere vielleicht mal nicht mehr da sind.
Die Woche war ich mit meinen kleinen im Zoo... auch wegen der SSC und "unseren"
Paten dort im Zoo... wirklich Glücklich sehen die Tiere dort auch nicht aus.

Ja, das ist die grosse Frage bei Zoos: Wollen wir eine gewisse Anzahl Tiere gefangen halten, um sie Leuten und insbesonders Kindern zeigen zu können, um so das Bewusstsein für die Natur zu erweitern, oder lassen wir es sein, mit der Gefahr, dass unser Nachwuchs einmal nicht mehr weiss, wo die Milch herkommt, die Wolle für unsere Pullis, und uns mit ihrer Artenvielfalt die Natur erhält?
Da ist eigentlich ein Naturhistorisches Museum ein guter Mittelweg. :-)

Es ist zwar nicht schön sich ausgestopfte Tiere anzuschauen, doch ich denke
es ist ein besserer Weg als Tiere einzusperren und ihnen Jahre oder sogar
Jahrzehntelange ein Leben in Freiheit zu verwehren.

Das Kindern ein Zoo gefällt ist klar... sie sehen Tiere die sie sonst nicht sehen.
Allerdings gibt es auch andere Wege, denn jedem Menschen der einen Zoo
beucht, wird ein völlig falsches Bild der Tiere dort vermittelt.

Aber Poly, very seldom. Gar nicht! Nie! Ist dieser ausgestopft? Kann doch nicht wahr sein. Aber toll.

Daniela, naja, es könnte ja mal einer irgendwo abhauen und durch die Marktgasse watscheln. Aber darum schrieb ich ja auch 'very seldom' und nicht nur 'seldom'. ;-)

Gudrun, naja, da steht => ... pet ... (or any animal/animals). Aber stimmt, der Kerl würde mir die Bude vermutlich ziemlich umkrempeln! ;-)

Naja, nachdem das ein SW-Foto ist, könnte das Walross ja auch ross heißen, weil es rot wie rosso ist, aber mir kam da eher Ross und Reiter in den Sinn.....nachdem es in Italien solche Viecher eher nicht gibt.

Berny, könnte mir vorstellen, dass er sich recht bockig anstellt, wenn man ihm einen Sattel verpassen will ,-))

Vielleicht bald einer der Letzten, die man noch bewundern kann. Und eine tolle Idee. Ein Bild zum Nachdenken.

Über den Saurier bin ich überrascht, aber die anderen Tiere sind

Um die Bergziege habe ich momentan gerade noch keine Angst, aber beim Walross habe ich grosse Bedenken.

What a great shot, insets too...but...*cringe*...stuffed animals...they are so horrible! I know they were the way things were done but oh man...

Born and raised in San Francisco, we have a huge museum overflowing with these things. All kinds of animals...you name it, there's some creepy diorama complete with a pair or more of the animals being showcased. I remember loving this museum when I was young because you DO get to see SO MANY KINDS of animals...and then...I grew up. Now these places just give me the CREEPS and fill me with disgust...I know, I know...I'm not really being fair but omg...it's just so awful. The whole history of this barbaric display is totally incredible.

Today only a tiny fraction exists of the ?acres? of displays once found at the museum that housed these things. Instead, there are ok/reasonable habitats for living animals instead. San Francisco was one of those places where barbaric zoos were a huge deal...things are so much better but still. Ick.

(I cannot STAND to go into places that display dead animals on the wall...there are no words.)

But first of all, for me the walrus is quite cute with its big mustache and the waddling way of walking. And they are not dangerous for us! :-)
Then there is the problem of presentation the animals to the people. Should we do it in a zoo where the animals can never be kept in an appropriate way? Or should we do it in a natural history museum, where the animals are dead but no longer suffering? In my opinion the museum is a good compromise :-)
