Newhaven in East Sussex is our local port. It has a regular ferry service to Dieppe in France - twice a day in winter, three times in summer. There are a couple of freight quays used by vessels trading in scrap metal and aggregates. On the west side there are fishing boat jetties, a lifeboat station and a small marina.

A quick trip from Seaford to Southease - quick but multi-facetted!
A grab lifts the shingle, dredged from the English Channel outside Newhaven, drops it in a hopper. It then runs up the red-framed conveyor belt and onto the quayside.
I can't see any name on this yacht. I think that it had come down from beyond the swing bridge, which could mean that it had been in one of the boat yards around Denton Island.
One of two second-hand pilot boats bought from Estuary Services Ramsgate in 2012. Pelorus was overhauled and put into service. Pathfinder remains in reserve, stored on East Quay alongside the scrap metal wharf.
You can see the Newhaven Port Authority's news item on the acquisitions at www.newhavenportauthority.co.uk/news-and-announcements/24-pilot-vessel-pelorus-is-launched-on-service.html
The pilot boats, that I assume replaced them, can be seen, back in 2005, at www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26281435
Saturday 26.9.2015 saw a fair amount of activity in Newhaven Harbour. There were several lighters with a couple of bucket cranes dredging along the East Quay, upstream from the ferry berth. GPS Avenger had probably towed them there. Survey work was being carried out further downstream and there was an unusual number of small craft around as well - ribs and small day craft. No doubt this will be the start of the build up to setting up the Rampion wind farm support base.
Watchful of Dover Port - Newhaven Swing Bridge - 2…
I had seen Watchful in one of the small boatyards on Denton Island a couple of weeks previously, but wasn't sure what she was there for. Some boats in that yard are in for conversion to private use.
Arriving at Newhaven's South Quay, to load a cargo of scrap metal. Given her name, it's possibly for use in Germany, but some goes to Portugal and some has gone further afield, in bigger ships.
