Newhaven in East Sussex is our local port. It has a regular ferry service to Dieppe in France - twice a day in winter, three times in summer. There are a couple of freight quays used by vessels trading in scrap metal and aggregates. On the west side there are fishing boat jetties, a lifeboat station and a small marina.

Bit of a long shot this one. I had just trekked up to the Fort area to get a look at Ecolution and Laga and didn't have time to walk round to Denton Island to get a closer view. The call of Lidl's was too great! The folding hatch covers do rather obscure much of the superstructure from this angle.
Ferries back out, having loaded through the bow, swing around the lighthouse and make a sweeping arc, initially heading southeast, then pulling away from the coast opposite Cuckmere Haven and turning to the southwest. Well sometimes that's their route - other times they take a much sharper turn, having rounded the light.
This vessel went in and out of the harbour entrance and back in. It could have been waiting for high-tide to pass through the swing bridge and berth, or it might have been dredging although it seems a bit late in the day and it kept on the move. From where I was it didn't look as though any dredging gear was deployed, but I was on the beach at Seaford, a fair old distance away.
The flat wedge-shaped bow is not cutting through the swell too well. Although a fair bit of spray is showing here, there were bigger splashes not caught on camera, and I would guess that she was still within the protection of the breakwater at this point.
