Elegant home - .. in the Historic District .. where businessmen built stately homes many years ago .. while creating the town around them .. haven't got the history on this one yet .. but when we used to live a bit down the road .. at Christmas, every window had a lighted & decorated tree .. all the way around the home .. elegance of days gone by © All Rights Reserved PeggyC 2014

For lease ..

"In 1906, Edwin Holt White and Thomas Montgomery, of the Mont-White Theater Company, purchased this lot and erected the current structure referred to as the “The Opera House.” The first floor was used for mercantile purposes, the second floor housed the stage and orchestra seats, and the third floor contained the balcony. The theater was one of the more elaborate in the area and hosted many reputable touring companies with ticket prices ranging from 50¢ to $1.00. When no professional performances were scheduled, the theater was opened for civic functions, fraternal meetings, and plays by amateur groups." - from Downtown Historic Site ( a local book of historic sites by Amy Edwards Barr and Jerry Perterman have the spelling of the theatre 'Monte White' © All Rights Reserved * * * * * ------- 5 notes at the top ------- * * * * *

Industrial History ..

in photos - Western Electric plant ( 20+ buildings ) - was owned and contracted out by the Government - on the left is a fascinating water tower - center ... something seems to have been assembled in there - right side .. .. from what I can find out - this tower tested missiles - need to locate more info - lived not too far from this area for about 17 yrs - thought they made telephones - no, am not kidding - if you can find a very old telephone, look on the bottom - should say "made by Western Electric" - 2013 closed/abandoned since 1991-92 .. in 2005 purchased, but still unused; possibly going to be a salvage site © All Rights Reserved UPDATE: 18 May 2019 This has passed through many hands/companies; there is no definite use [public anyhow]..
