Feathers!

Portrait ? Probably .. Neither parent was happy .. I was too close to the 'kids' .. Thought I'd just sort of walk past the nest .. If you've ever seen Mockingbirds upset .. That was it ! They took turns flying up .. White feathers displayed .. And very vocal .. Have seen Mockingbirds attack felines .. When they were just walking in the yard in Florida .. Minding their own business .. I didn't plan on getting attacked .. So, quick shot and I was out of there! All was fine with the Mockingbird Parents then. what one might see looking out the window - across the street - a Vulture Convention - if they would stop flying in and out - would have an accurate count - Turkey Vultures (Cathartes aura) - the Cleaning Crew of Nature - - from Wikipedia "This vulture is often seen standing in a spread-winged stance. The stance is believed to serve multiple functions: drying the wings, warming the body, and baking off bacteria. House Finches .. Photos taken through Living Room window .. There are 4 of them .. Plus Poppa (with red feathers) feeding them .. They called and called for him .. And called .. He did his usual indirect path to the nest .. Can't be too careful .. Then landed on ceramic squirrel to bend down to open mouths .. Poppa glanced through the window .. I didn't move .. But, he wasn't happy with me .. Quickly fed them and left .. Probably my imagination .. But the kids looked upset after he left .. They glared .. Seems this brood of House Finches has done just that .. First photo was on 5May .. Some will soon fledge .. Serious wing-testing was going on ~ Not a clue what Poppa Finch was telling them .. taken through my favorite kitchen window (that really needs to be washed) - will wait until it gets above freezing, though - one of my favorites flew in - paused long enough for me to see him - then left - maybe he or others will show for a portrait - Waxwing - please return for a photo - Top Left -Northern Cardinal - In the Ash tree - American Robin - Right side all way down --- just twisted branches against shadow on a wall - Four in the center - Blue Jay ..
