The iconic lighthouse will still be there after the lock-down Roger, unlike some of the shops and businesses I fear! Always good to see a picture of this, in any weather! Take care.

Thank you Rosa, this would have been our last visit to coast before lock down until yesterday evening when we have a couple of hours at Steart, no other people for miles.

What a beauty and very nicely captured. There's a similar one not far from here on the Tay. Not in use and dilapidated but appreciated by cormorants, fishermen and photographers.
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Jean
Thank you Jean, this is still in use even in these days of GPS it used to have a bigger brother about half a mile inland and ships aligned the two lights to locate the entrance to the channel,
The larger lightouse is now a private house but think of all those stairs.

Odd looking structure. How come a storm hasn't washed it away at some point?
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Andy Rodker club
Thanks Andy, It has stood the test of time extremely well and even the huge storm of 1981 which battered the sea defence's into submission and flooded the town failed to have any impact on this elderly structure.

What was their secret I wonder?' (And no, I don't go along with that old canard, the 'wisdom of the ancients'. They knew 0.0001% of what we know!!)
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Andy Rodker club
I suspect its steel shoes are well anchored and the posts offer little resistance to the waves but most of all like many tall buildings it's built to move both by wind and wave but what ever it's secret is it works!

Belle capture de cet étrange phare sur pilotis ! Il me rappelle plus un silo à grains ou un réservoir d'eau qu'à un phare !

That lighthouse looks interesting. It's so small. I hope the ships can see its light. When the high tide comes the lighthouse keeper gets wet feet. :-)
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Susanne Hoy
Many thanks Susanne, It is 30ft (9m) High and has a range of 12 Nautical miles (22km) and it's sole purpose is to guide ships into the river channel and it's all automated these days.

A super capture of this iconic little lighthouse Roger. It always reminds me a sort of squat rocket ship awaiting it's passengers before take-off!

With it's black and white paint job, it stands beautifully in the landscape! Nicely done sir!
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you Keith it does add a bit of interest to a long and frankly quite boring beach, the seaward side has a wide red stripe from top to bottom but it looks in need of a clean or repaint sometime soon.

It looks like the lighthouse itself is feeling cold and miserable, Roger ... All alone and shivering on its stilts as it waits for the tide to come back in ...
Roger (Grisly) club has replied to Annalia S.
Thank you Annalia, it's been getting the feet wet since 1832 so I guess it's well used to it by now
