Wine Companion

Negative space, in art, is the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject, and not the subject itself, forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape, and such space is occasionally used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image. The use of negative space is a key element of artistic composition.

either 2 old men with tiny bowler hats talking face to face, or an ornate stone plant pot!

of course it could just be 2 bits of contoured glass or plastic laid on a white surface - but that's stretching the imagination a bit :-)

Not 2 old men or a plant pot:-)

Seen In My Opinion: excellent striking image. The first glance forces closer inspection and that is a sign of class. Closer inspection reveals subtle treatment and clever tones. Nice one! The square crop increases the impact

Seems only fair that I am one of the ones to comment on this photo seeing as I am the one who encouraged you to post it here! I still love the image and that fact that it is all about lines, curves and shapes. This wiggles through the frame and is very pleasing for my eye to follow. The white and blue work well together. Ideally for me, In My Opinion, the blue needed to be deeper and more uniform in colour. However, as it is, it adds realism and reality. Thanks for being a valued member of this unique group.

Gillian Everett has replied to Auribins
Thanks David. The shading of the blue was affected by the depth of black in the original image, which was not uniform. I enjoy the critique aspect of IMO. As you say, it is a unique group :-)
