So bland and yet..... Why is part of it painted a different shade of bland. Why is there a darker rectangle on the left. What is the small white rectangle. And why is it so tall ? I did a project on walls years ago and became intrigued with humans need for walls , fences, barriers. We are so territorial.

Some interesting thoughts, Jean. This is on the border of the original city of Toronto, which was dead set against enclosure, and the former borough of York. Until 1995 you had to have special permission to build a fence over 8 inches tall in Toronto (those fences to the right were in York, but would probably have been allowed in Toronto for safety). In 1995, though, the province amalgamated Metropolitan Toronto, the suburbs eliminated some of Toronto's bylaws, and fences started springing up in the old city. You're right -- Enclosure R Us.

Fascinating perspective - what at first glance looks like a slab of color with a vertical punctuation mark at its end. But the slab isn't all one color, nor isn't it not broken up with some interesting shapes. Much to really look at here.

An intriguing image John...........and I asked myself much the same questions as Jean above.

A wall like that must be an inviting target for graffiti artists..............and I suspect that the "different shade of bland" to quote Jean, is the result of covering up some graffiti. The marks on the left of the wall may be some further evidence of a clean up job.

I like the harsh and unforgiving light and the resulting hard shadows which suits the location perfectly. I especially like the "robot" and it's shadow :-)

Having said all that - the wall is crying out for some "proper" street art!

Thanks, Keith. Toronto's rules about graffiti cleanup are very strict for businesses (this is a liquor store).

I'm still struggling with the summer light here 12 years after taking up photography. I don't know how people further south manage. The winter light's no treat, either, with all the reflection off the snow.

Keith mentioned the "robot" and that was what first took my eye. I'll take a guess that the painted sections of wall are covering graffiti. With an interesting, if unintended, result.

The ticket machine is probably what caught my eye, George. It really stands out against the wall. As I mentioned to Keith, Toronto is very strict about businesses cleaning up graffiti, some of them massive.
