Looks so banal. But it isn‘t ! A fine everyday view very well composed.

I like the composition. A lovely feeling of space and the sky is glorious.

Thanks, Jean. After six months here I'm not afraid of the sky any more -- where I lived in Toronto, to see the sky you had to look straight up, while here it's all over the place. This part of the country is very similar to Norfolk, exceot that instead of old church steeples sticking up into the sky you have silos.

The picture is great. But the architecture, the landscaping, the careless use of land: oh dear.

Thanks, TLC. The waste of land here is abominable, and abominated by me daily. Since I left here in 1970 all the expansion has been at very low density.

I love the sky.............it's amazing! It's hardly landscaping, but at least someone has made the effort and the trees and shrubs will look nice when the leaves grow.

Nicely composed and taken John. I like the moving car for some reason :-)

Thanks, Keith. We get plenty of mackerel skies here because the weather is constantly changing. My original plan was to make a banded composition, but for the last shot I waited for the front of a car to appear. It was more interesting than the other views, and I think Bob is right about why.

If the car weren't there, you'd miss it's "weight" at lower right, where the eye wants to go. The lines of the two trees blend so well in the middle, with the darker one urging toward the right corner. The rightmost building is lower than its counterpart on the left. The parked cars angle right. Whether planned or carefully selected, there are a lot of well-composed sight lines here, all congruent.

The unusual sky is a bit of a distraction, but imagining a bright blue there doesn't seem at all right.

Thanks, Bob. As I mentioned to Keith, I just added the front end of a car for the last shot to see if that would help. It did, but I hadn't thought clearly about why. It's important that the car is white, too, I think. Perhaps it creates more tension with the dull bricks than another colour would.

Thanks, Stoker. I like the idea of Everydayland. A more helpful new name for New Topographics, and a theme worth exploring (with due credit, of course).

We get a lot of 'em here, Diana. The jetstream moves back and forth over the lower Great Lakes so the weather is constantly changing. She gets some windy, too.

Thanks, Denis. This is the place to see mackerel skies. The weather changes rapidly here.
