A glorious mackerel sky. One of my favourites.

Thanks, Jean. We get a lot of mackerel skies here. This is the part of the world (the lower Great Lakes) about which Mark Twain said that if you don't like the weather just wait twenty minutes.

Mark Twain is a writer I like and his saying about the weather applies to Scotland as well.

I thought he said that about San Francisco. But then, he was also supposed to say the thing about the coldest winter being summer in SF which he actually never said.
And don't quote me on that.

I may be mistaken, Sarah. I thought he said it when he lived in Buffalo, and even if he didn't say it about Buffalo it's still true of there. The jetstream swings back and forth over the lower lakes so the weather is highly changeable.

I once saw a description in a British newspaper, Jean, of Canada as "like Scotland, only bigger".

It's interesting that in French, Italian, and German this type of sky evokes thoughts of sheep, while in Spanish it's compared to cobbles, and in English to fishscales. They're all good metaphors, I think.

Interesting how the lens distortion causes the yellow building and the towers to say, "Look up!" And you planned well to have a particularly interesting sky to look up to. Imagining this with a clear blue heaven - it doesn't work.

Purposely or not, you do not have anything straight or even notionally so in this, and it works. If anything were straightened you'd lose the motion, the flow of the clouds. Good choices.

Thanks, Bob. Well, the right side of the window frame is almost vertical. And it's conveniently painted a different colour than the wall it's in.

I don't like clear skies. Sometimes they work but most often they are just empty space. In winter, of course, they're hell, because the camera captures the blue light reflected off the snow.
