Built in 1870, the headlands is 245' above the sea and the light is visible for 22 miles at sea. Cape Blanco is the westernmost point in Oregon.

That's one of the more interesting lighthouses I've seen photographed. I like the sense of isolation.

AND...it was as isolated as it looks. It's a fair distance off of the 101 and being the southernmost, it doesn't get as many visitors from the Portland metro area. The winds on the cape probably account for the lack of trees.

Yes, that's crucial, the wind there is brutal! Once you're hunkered down among the thickets that surround each campsite it's nice and warm.
