Lucerne Valley abandoned farm (0210)

Lucerne Valley abandoned farm (0210)
On the far end of the buildings, what appeared to have been some sort or processing (drying?) building and storage area. Note that the finish on the right side appears to be relatively standard finished concrete, while the left side is an adobe-like material, suggesting this is an expansion of an older building. See adjacent pictures.

Fascinating place to explore. What in the world would they be processing way out there in the desert?

Don't know what they would have been growing, but in the satellite photo you can see that there were very large fields with fairly wide rows, so not a grain crop.

There's an orchard with bare trees of some kind to the NE, so who knows? I tried a search for crops there and didn't come up with much besides alfalfa and marijuana. ; b

Thanks for looking. There's other parts of the Mojave desert where you can see there failed attempts at orchards. The only thing I can think of is that maybe the settlers arrived in a series of unusually wet years where things looked possible.
