Lucerne Valley abandoned farm adobe? (0211)

Lucerne Valley abandoned farm adobe? (0211)
Like the main house, the processing plant seemed to be a combination of an older, adobe-like, portion and a newer, poured concrete, portion. Looking around on the web I could not determine if 'adobe' only refers to adobe brick or to other forms. The Wikipedia page for adobe refers to two other forms of mud-based walls (cob and rammed earth) and this might be more accurately describes as one of those: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe

I've always thought of adobe as sun-dried mud brick. Dunno if I ever saw a formal definition, but on a kids' field trip at Ft. Churchill State Park they showed a demo of how they were made: just mud in a mold, with some grass or straw for binder. I also heard my grandfather describe seeing them being made much the same way in Mexico. FWIW...

PS: Turned out I actually have a picture of the bricks they made:

This was on a field trip my son's 5th grade class took to Ft. Churchill.

Thanks for the link, it creates a better sense of how it was all done.

Meadowmom (see adjacent picture), thinks it's rammed earth. Like Robin (InterstateGirl), when I was an easterner I couldn't imagine how adobe held up. Seeing the area where this structure exists, I'm thinking the opposite now -- where did they find the water to make adobe?? It's very dry. It is, though, close enough to the San Gabriel's that there may be a relatively shallow aquifer.
