I tend to forget how much we (California) feel like a separate country, between the agriculture checkpoints and the extra immigration checkpoints.

Yep, California is definitely unique and that's why I miss it so much! Nothing else like it. As for your comment, slgwv, I've had foreign friends ask things like "what are the social rules in America about such-and-such" and I have to tell them it depends on exactly where you're talking about. They don't quite understand what I mean, and that I really don't know all the rules for everywhere!
