It is reputed to be the spot where King Robert the Bruce landed in 1307 with a small army of just 300 men, this being a short distance from Turnberry, his childhood home and chosen as the place to start his advance back into Scotland and begin the War of Independence.

Despite a mix up when the rest of his army failed to turn up he went on to win the Battle of Loudoun Hill and conquer Scotland, reigning for 23 years until his death.
