It is peaceful there Gudrun, but when you get up around the castle ruins there are hundred of kittiwakes nesting - they are really noisy!! HFF and have a lovely weekend

Beautiful view of the harbour and ruins. You've reawakened my interest in a period of Scottish history. Dunbar castle was where Bothwell abducted Mary Queen of Scots to. They married and civil was broke out because it was claimed she and Bothwell were implicated in the murder of her second husband Darnley. Their army was defeated at Carberry, Mary was imprisoned first in Scotland, then England. Bothwell tried to gain support for her in Europe until he was imprisoned and died in Denmark. Who killed Darnley remains a mystery. Practically the whole Scottish nobility wanted rid of him so there were plenty of suspects.

Hi Jean and many thanks for your notes - they are really interesting. Some of this I could drag out of my memory from history lessons at school but the rest I didn't know. I am pleased my photo piqued your interest as I now know a lot more than I did before! Have a lovely weekend

The colony of kittiwakes that nest on and around the ruins at the top end of the image can be a bit noisy though!! A belated HFF and have a good weekend
