Paarungsbereit - Ready to mate

On its high vantage point on a leaf of Iris pseudacorus, a male Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum) is looking out for prey, perhaps also for a mate. In any case, the red colour is beautiful to look at in the evening light and the delicate wing veining is impressive.
Sympetrum sanguineum is an undemanding large dragonfly that inhabits practically all waters.
