Ein Meisterwerk der Steinmetzkunst ... A masterpiece of stonemasonry ... PIP

... is the famous spiral staircase in the Deutschordensschloss in Bad Mergentheim. It was built in 1574 by Blasius Berwart together with 20 stonemasons. In the picture a view through the middle of the stair spindle from down to the top. You can see the turns of the "snail", carried by filigree columns. Above you can see the sun as a symbol of Christ. On the underside of the staircase runs a constantly changing ornament. Note: All this was created without PC and CAD programs, only with a yardstick and compasses. A true marvel.
