Lluta Valley seen from a hairpin bend on Ruta 11. This road leads from the port of Arica on the Pacific coast to the border with Bolivia at Lago Chungará, climbing more than 4500m in less than 200 km. Sadly the heavy traffic has lead to many fatal accidents over the years and the sight of roadside shrines/animitas is a common one.

Oh ja Gudrun, so etwas kenne ich aus Thailand. An einem Pass hat man auch auf das Glück und die Götter vertraut anstatt... na ja...

Ja, bei uns hat es funktioniert:-) Für den Lastwagenfahrer eher nicht, der hat nichts mehr davon, dass mit den Resten seines Fahrzeugs ein Schrein errichtet wurde....

Besten Dank, Ulrich! Manche Fahrer fahren leider wie die Säue, mit fatalen Folgen....Wo's weiter oben einen Bus mit Schulmädchen aus der Kurve genommen hat, steht jetzt ein bombastisches Denkmal:-(
