Großen Dank, Ko! Ein Einzelbild ist bei starken Nordlichtern immer nur eine Momentaufnahme, ein paar Sekunden später hat sich' schon verändert. Vielleicht schaffe ich es igendwann mal, genügend Bilder für ein timelapse aufzunehmen...

A couple of days ago I saw a report from a traveller to Spitsbergen. And it turned out that one must have quite a bit of luck to see the aurora.

Yes, first of all you need clear skies or at least big enough holes in the clouds,-) Then you need a bit of solar activity...In the area around Tromsö you can see auroras even if the activity is very low- it really depends on where you are.
I was in Tromsö for a week, we had one very good and two decent sightings. In the following week there were no sightings at all (the weather). But statistically you have a chance of 3 nights with aurora out of 7 in Tromsö, in the Lofoten islands only 2/7.

Excellent work Gudrun. Love the way the aurora seems to radiate from the dark area near the top of the image. Lovely series. I like the first inset best because of the shape of the green "curtain" just above the mountains and the diagonal streaks coming in from the top left.

Thank you, Graham! It's an optical illusion called a corona but it's one of the most spectacular sights to experience. It was moving rather fast, all the photos were taken within one minute.

Vielen Dank, Uwe! Es ist ein Glück, dass man, wenn die Kamera mal eingestellt und auf dem Stativ montiert ist, nicht mehr gross hinschauen muss, sondern das Spektakel genießen kann:-)

Vielen Dank, Berny! Es lohnt sich, einige Tage in Tromsö zu verbringen. Vorteil, nicht ganz so kalt wie im Binnenland, wo es natürlich auch genial für Nordlichter ist (z.B. Schwedisch-Lappland, Abisko)

Großen Dank, Dida! Ich würde das gerne nochmal sehen.-) Dieses Jahr konnte ich zwar geniale Nordlichter bewundern, aber eben vom schwankenden Schiff, wo es immer Zufallstreffer sind, wenn was nicht verwackelt,-) Die PiPs waren übrigens alle innerhalb einer Minute....

Gudrun Du machst mich neidisch, das Schauspiel möchte ich auch mal live erleben. Ich glaube beim ersten mal kommt man vor Staunen gar nicht zum fotografieren ;-) !

Herzlichen Dank, Maik! Es lohnt sich, da mal eine Woche vor Ort zu sein. Am besten ist es, wenn man zum Anfang und zum Üben erstmal kein ganz so spektakuläres Nordlicht hat. Ich habe mich hier hinterher auch geärgert, was ich alles noch hätte besser machen können, nachdem ich Fotos der alten Hasen gesehen habe. Ich war so auf den Himmel konzentriert, dass ich den Vordergrund meist vergessen habe...

Das kann ich mir gut vorstellen, hast diesen Anblick vor Dir und den Bezugspunkt vergessen !
Die Berge zeigen ja erst wie mächtig das Himmelsschauspiel aussieht.
Kommt auf meine Liste für Urlaubsziele nach ganz oben ;-),
