Laguna Azul

Laguna Azul
Typical windy weather at Laguna Azul. Clouds have descended on Torres del Paine Massif, only Cerro Almirante Nieto (Paine chico) on the left can be seen.

A lovely scene, I can almost feel the wind. :-)

Many thanks! The wind is quite notorious, because it comes from both sides, the Pacific and the Atlantic;-)

Indeed! It's the wind's fault;-) There's also a Laguna Verde in the park which didn't look green when I was there;-)

Wonderful landscape with their inevitable clouds.

Thank you, Jaap! Because of the wind the clouds didn't stay in one place too long- you could see the Torres every now and then.

Missed them completely.

That is a pity! But distances are so vast that you can't see everything in one visit.

The sky + the distant mountains are undoubtedly a superb view but I love also the colour of the lake.

Thanks a lot! As the name says this lake usually is blue, but the wind changed that into something much more interesting.-)

Rough and wild beauty. I can feel the wind there... and I can imagine how difficult it would be to get there on the bike. ;-)

Thanks a lot, Tom! The climate is rather rough though it can also be warm. out of the wind;-) It never lasts long though... Wind is a challenge down there, in summer it blows all the time- from 60-120 kmh!

Tomas K☼h☼ut has replied to Gudrun club
Hmmm... I have to choose the route of travel according to prevailing winds direction! Being driven by 120 km/h wind from the back - than I can make speed of 50 km even on flat parts of the road! But going against it - almost impossible...

Well, in Argentinean Patagonia the wind usually comes down from the cordillera - west to east. It's because of the temperature difference between the ice fields and the hot dry steppe.
Torres del Paine is more complicated because it is the first place where wind from the Pacific finds a way to the Atlantic, so it's open to all sides, depending on where exactly you are, of course.

You'll find campgrounds in Patagonia are always in sheltered wooded areas- otherwise your tent will fly away;-)

In anderthalb Wochen fahre ich nochmal nach Norge (reiner Zufall, diese Häufung...). Die Stürme waren aber echt spannend.-)
