Hallgrímskirkja with Klais organ

Hallgrímskirkja with Klais organ
Hallgrímskirkja was designed by Icelandic state architect Guðjón Samúelsson (1887-1950). Construction of the church started in 1945 but the nave was only completed in 1986.
It has a large concert organ built by Johannes Klais, Bonn. The backrests of the benches can be turned so that during concerts people sit facing the organ. For church services the backrests are turned to face the altar and choir.

Danke, Udo! Ich fand die Schlichtheit sehr stimmig und die Kirche war so schön lichtdurchflutet. Sowas ist in den Breiten sicher nicht das Schlechteste;-) Die Sache mit den Bänken hat mich sehr beeindruckt- das ist irgendwie typisch isländisch pragmatisch;-) LG Gudrun

We were there for Easter this year. The organ sounds wonderful and the choir filled every crevice of the ceiling vaults.

Many thanks, Puchinpappy! You were so lucky! We missed a concert by one day and unfortunatley there wasn't any during our stay in Reykjavík.

Da gäb es bei uns doch bestimmt wieder eine Regelung, die das verbietet. Im Frühjahr shauen wir mal in HH im Michel :)

Garantiert, Lutz- irgendeine Vorschrift wie die mit dem Rütteltest,-)
Ich hoffe, dass es in HH dann a) etwas trockener ist und b) man sich im Michel auch bewegen darf;-) Auf den Turm werde ich mich aber wohl nicht trauen....
