Mangde Chhu Valley

Mangde Chhu Valley
Morning light over Mangde Chhu valley near Trongsa, seen from the Lateral Road. Most valleys in Bhutan tend to be extremely narrow and steep. Distances look short as the crow flies but roads have to take long detours.

Au Cœur... diagonalhorizon, Arlequin Photographie, Lian, tiabunna and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

Moody! I almost missed the roofs on the buildings at the left.

I found it amazing how they manage to live in terrain like that, these himalayan hills are near perpendicular!

LG Gudrun

Very rugged terrain, it's hard o imagine how they could make roads there.

Thanks a lot!
Well, the road meanders along one one side of the valley, gradually dropping down until the river can be crossed on a bridge and then up again on the other side.... it takes ages and there are no even stretches!
The main east-west "highway" was only completed in the 1970s, is just 2,5m wide and every winter and monsoon time there are road blocks because of landslips...
