Booted Eagle - Hieraaetus pennatus

This is the beautiful Booted Eagle - Hieraaetus pennatus - (also classified as Aquila pennata), which is a medium sized Eagle about the size of a Common Buzzard. It is a mostly migratory bird living in much of Europe and wintering in the tropics of Asia and Africa. Its name relates to the fact that its legs are totally feathered right down to its feet. They will eat pretty much anything from insects up to medium sized birds, mammals and lizards. This one was seen and photographed from a boat on the Mapusa River in Goa, India.
