Attack of the Hollywood Robots (Explored)

Attack of the Hollywood Robots (Explored)
The Sunday Challenge: Forced Perspectives.

The real Robby the Robot was a 7 foot tall creation that made his first appearance in the 1956 film, Forbidden Planet. He later appeared in a number of television series including, Lost in Space and The Addams Family. For more information about Robby, check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robby_the_Robot.

This model is less than a foot tall. I posed him near a very large house and used a narrow aperture to get the best depth of field. I also used flash to avoid having the much lighter background overwhelm the subject.

Very good idea and attempt =) I would place the robot on the gravel/road, not on the grass, and tried to take the shot even lower ;-)

Thanks, Sami. I always appreciate tips on how to make the shot better. I shot this on a slight hill with the camera lower than the robot's feet. Unfortunately, that made the grass more visible. After viewing it in the computer, I thought about reshooting it from the road, but I did not want my obituary to read, "Run over while photographing a toy robot."

Wow, this is so excellent Esther. It's great to learn how you did it by using the flash too. Very helpful info. I just love this guy and I remember seeing a replica of him over in Seattle at the Science Museum a few years ago and also enjoyed his appearance on Lost In Space.

Great shot, Esther! He's one of my favorite people! I just re-enjoyed "Forbidden Planet" recently. Of course, it was only to see, Robby, not Anne Francis. lol

Congrats on Explore, and thanks for the memories!
