thanks so much and for the correction. correction made - but it was a different kind then I am used to, no horizontal anything and three times as tall. perhaps they are hybrids and not the original ancient plant?

Good old horsetail - love the little crown and the pretty closeup shot! I haven't seen this for ages. I remember how much fun it was to pull the sections apart when I was a little kid.

horsetail still grows in my mother's woods - but not this big ones. i didn't pull them apart, but i loved running my hands over the tall stems feeling the sideways thingys. i didn't even know these big ones existed until recently (hybrids?).
