Wilhelm Hesch by Pietzner
Wilhelm Hesch, born Vilém Heš (1860-1908); Czech bass.
In 1882 he made his debut at the National Theatre in Prague as Plumkett in Von Flotow's "Martha". Here he created in 1889 the role of Filip at the première of Dvořák's "Der Jakobiner". In 1895 he was engaged by the Wiener Hofoper where he remained until his death. At that time the Wiener Hofoper reached an unusual artistic level under the direction of Gustav Mahler.
On the photo he is seen as Mephisto in Gounod's "Faust".
