As commented in a reply to Isabel, I fully intended to get a close up of a gnarled trunk but was unable to do so (reason? A sneezing fit, scrambling about for tissues and removing mask for purpose of blowing nose, the sun going in, a family with myriad unmasked toddlers suddenly descending, etc., etc!).

These obviously were planted here as part of the park creation. I suspect there is a profitable business in old olive trees for municipal plantings. But I don't criticise it. Good business for some and pleasing aspects for others!

Old olive trees are very photogenic.................and it's lovely to see so many of them in one place.

They were bought as a job lot by the council when the park was created in the 70s, Keith. There is a big business in gnarly old olive trees for ornamental parks, etc. They preserve the old'uns in the south precisely for this!

I don't blame them...........they're very expensive to buy (which is why I dont have one):
