I simply liked the stone and vegetation contrast and the near timelessness of the site.

aNNa schramm, ROL/Photo, Rosalyn Hilborne, Fred Fouarge and 15 other people have particularly liked this photo

Is this a ruin, then?

No. It was built in Victorian times to bring in the tourists and deceive the gullible.

It's fascinating! It looks as if they'd done some quite extensive reconstruction though.

What happened is that it was excavated in 1878 by William Copeland Borlase and although he is rightly lauded as opening up the field of Cornish Archaeology, his methods were controversial (even in his day) and he sometimes re-arranged the layout of sites to suit his own pre-conceived notions. This is is one example and it is not now absolutely clear what is original ruin and what is re-construction by him.

Quite! I stuttered with my 'B's, among other letters as a child. So I would not have relished the name then!

Old stones and creeping plants - two ingredients that are always a success for a photo.... Like this one, just great.
