Funnily enough in Spanish the names for the derrick structure and the bird are similar to each other if not exactly the same (grua and grulla - similar pronunciation), and I wonder of they were once the same. If so, I wonder why this would be the case in both languages!?
Anyway, I thought storks delivered babies!!

Hi John,
I went outside to get the Sunday Times (one of the few places where you can get it in Madrid, at the cost of an arm and a leg) and crossed the road to look at the piece of plant in question. Yes; quite a job. Interesting to see how they anchored the weight and got the balancing just right. I couldn't quite get the cabin into view (the tree obscured it no matter what angle I tried) but there was a chap in a box fixing something to the cross on top of the spire. By mid-afternoon the whole thing had gone!

Nick started an interesting discussion about the language. Check out the French language for the same objects.. The Welsh bastardised the English word, (Craen) as I suspect it is a new addition to the language..

Interesting to see part of your day in Madrid.

I have the best of both worlds, Rosa - sufficient time to myself during the week at my flat and the weekends at my girlfriend's flat. It suits us both!!
A lovely day today - classes cancelled (well it happens on the run up to Easter) so I took myself off for a walk in the country near El Escorial. Pics to follow!
