That is unfortunately correct Jens. We have very many spotted around the UK but I believe Germany has even more. Of course with the many battles and skirmishes that have taken place, (and we knew how to know these things down) many have almost disappeared. On the positive side, we have been preserving those that are left with some fervour, for many years now too.

Es gehört zu meinen liebsten Wochenendbeschäftigungen alte Klöster, Burgen und Schlösser zu besuchen. Ich war zwar schon in Großbritannien aber die Verbindung die ich zur Geschichte des Landes habe, stammt eher aus Geschichtsbüchern, Filmen und Romanen. Dabei kommt immer wieder die Erkenntnis hoch, dass die Kriege von damals und heute nicht einfach nur viele Menschenleben kosten, sondern dass unglaublich viel Wissen, Ideen und Talente auf den Schlachtfeldern bleiben. Diese Menschen hätten im Frieden den gesellschaftlichen Fortschritt und die Wissenschaft vermutlich weit voran bringen können.

A beautiful landscape Herb.........captured in lovely light. The stone bridge and wooden railings make good foreground interesting and what's left of the castle looks interesting, especially when viewed large.

I like the juxtaposition of the two distant peaks with the two piles of stones in the ruins. They almost match!

Always good when you enjoy my holiday snaps Keith. Good that you saw a comparison between those two ruined towers? and the two pointed peaks. A good place to visit but we only had about an hour total here.

Hi Herb
A really nice picture, which I like very much!
It confused me a little, as there is also a Llanfihangel-y-Pennant near Garndolbenmaen, (Cwm Pennant) not so far from me, but no castle there! Then I remembered it is by Tywyn (but it must be the only Welsh castle I have never visited).

Nice to see you again Peter. I imagine there are a lot of repeated place names in your country. It was a great area that we visited whilst being just south of Barmouth. A fine expanse of a ruin here so you must make a visit soon.
