Healey Dell Viaduct

Healey Dell Viaduct
Join me by the River Spodden underneath this splendid viaduct.
Situated in the scenic Healey Dell Nature reserve this old railway viaduct used to carry the ‘Rochdale to Bacup Railway Line’. It was built in 1867 to carry passengers and operated until the late 60s with coal trains only. It is only single track wide and is 105ft (32m) high above the river, with eight arches, each with a 30 ft (9.1m) span. A footpath now runs along the top.
See PiP

Enjoy full screen.

A nice spot. There were a few people around here and even children playing in that (far from clean) river. Glad you enjoyed it.

Have a gud un. Herb

A magnificent structure Herb............and as Toz has said, very high! The stonework looks as if it's stood the test of time very well and I like the detail and textures you've captured, as well as the lush green of the nearby trees.

The PiP is lovely.........the viaduct looks wonderful against the blue sky.

These viaducts, that we have so many of, always look great as well as giving us historical interest. Not many carrying steam nowadays but they still make good photos. Glad you liked the PiP too.

Smashing pair of shots Herb! The person sitting on the log certainly adds scale, random figure or the Missus?

Glad you liked them both Maggs. The figure is a random one as you partially guessed although my wife Eileen, was stood nearby.

Gosh, that's high!! The scale is beautifully shown by the lady in this shot Herb. I love viaducts and was very sad many years ago when one was demolished between here and Shepton Mallet. Two terrific shots here.

Good evening, Rosa.

The River Spodden lends its name to my 'Ipernity Handle'. The river flows near to my childhood home.

A dramatic view here Herb.
