Common carder bumblebee

Common carder bumblebee
As early summer starts to take a hold in our garden, the bees are out in force. Here we see a ‘Common carder bee’ with its all-brown colouring and no white tail, collecting nectar from our Azalea bush.

See PiP for a White tailed bumblebee

Enjoy full screen.

Thanks Gordon. Yes, a great lens for this sort of work. I would probably use it more but its heavy and on outings I find the 105mm (152mm equiv) somewhat restricting. That is not helped by my main lens of 24-120 covering this focal distance too. Out gardens can be good places for photography.

A lovely azalea with the bonus of a bee Herb. They don't grow very well in my garden.
I love your PiP with the pollen splattered bee :-)

All the best & sunny weekend, Rosa.

Our azalea is particularly lovely this year bursting with flowers. It is full of bees at the moment but we have a lot of blue flowers yet to come into their prime and then the bees start on them. Yes that bee with the pollen is very attractive I know.

Enjoy the rest of the sunny weekend too. Herb

An excellent macro shot Herb...........the bee is really lovely and you've captured it in superb detail, especially in the wings which are wonderful.

Another cracking macro in the PiP too........also beautifully detailed. Like Rosa (above) I also like the tiny spots of pollen all over it.

Ah praise indeed from the macro master himself! This 105mm is particularly good for this sort of stuff and its a good time to be in the garden. I must try some other insects perhaps. Very happy you enjoyed them both

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Herb

All well deserved..!!

I loved my Nikon 105mm macro................my Olympus 60mm one is good, but I wish I had something longer.

Olympus have just started selling a 90mm macro...............but currently they cost the best part of £1300. So I think I can manage without one for the foreseeable future!

Hi again Keith. I had forgotten that you too had once this lens. I have to admit that my standard pair of Olympus zooms where fantastic at macro but never having quite the bokeh that this has. I am sure that the Zuiko 90mm macro would be a great lens coupled with extra magnification of the Olympus sensor system.

Stunning shot where this lens comes into its own even if it's not used every day it stands out. I concer with all the other comments this just so good.

You are absolutely right Steve. It is a good all rounder really but for macro, its outstanding as Keith above says. You, having the same lens, of course knows exactly what I mean. Cheers for the visit.
