The last Fairy Bridge

The last Fairy Bridge
A trip to the local beauty spot of Healy Dell Nature Reserve in Rochdale brought us to this lone 340 year old bridge. This was one of a pair here called ‘The Thrutch Bridges’ but known locally as the Fairy bridges. The other was washed away in a severe storm in December 2015. The two bridges were never foot bridges at all though, but supported an external wall of the Fulling Mill built in 1676, long since gone.

Enjoy full screen.

A lovey bridge, Herb. I love the dynamism of the white water. All the best, Joe

Yes a lot of movement down there but it has been far more so in bad weather.

A beautiful picture Herb. I love this kind of bridge. It looks so fragile.
Excellent information. It looks like this one is used as a footbridge now (?)
Happy Tuesday. Cheers, Rosa.

Glad you liked and yes it does end up in a nice view. Rosa, it is not and has never been used as footbridge as detailed in the description. I did for a moment think of trying to cross it but on closer inspection, thought better of it!

Have a great day. Herb

A lovely image Herb getting a pack horse across that would have been a problem !!

It would if they had wanted to do that but it was never a real footbridge or in fact any kind of what we think of as a foot bridge, as detailed in the description. I got to admit though, it sure looks like a footbridge or pack-horse bridge.

It must be a bridge Herb because it bridges the stream anyway I love it.

Well in that Gordon you are quite right. It is a bridge without doubt and shown in the name but simply not a foot bridge. I know you like this kind of bridge too.

It's easy to see how it got its name Herb..........such a delightful little "bridge". It's in beautiful surroundings as well with all those lovely ferns and the stream. The light and dappled shadows are lovely and you've captured the water movement perfectly.

Top notch sir!

Great that you enjoyed it Keith. After seeing this we went to the local centre for an afternoon tea where I saw a photo on the wall of two bridges. So afterwards we went back to look for the other but it had gone. The valley is pretty spectacular with a lot of historic industry remains. Just nearby was a specular viaduct, amazingly difficult o capture. The lighting conditions where of the king that care had to be taken.

Enjoy the day. Herb
