The last Fairy Bridge

The last Fairy Bridge
A trip to the local beauty spot of Healy Dell Nature Reserve in Rochdale brought us to this lone 340 year old bridge. This was one of a pair here called ‘The Thrutch Bridges’ but known locally as the Fairy bridges. The other was washed away in a severe storm in December 2015. The two bridges were never foot bridges at all though, but supported an external wall of the Fulling Mill built in 1676, long since gone.

Enjoy full screen.

Great that you enjoyed it Keith. After seeing this we went to the local centre for an afternoon tea where I saw a photo on the wall of two bridges. So afterwards we went back to look for the other but it had gone. The valley is pretty spectacular with a lot of historic industry remains. Just nearby was a specular viaduct, amazingly difficult o capture. The lighting conditions where of the king that care had to be taken.

Enjoy the day. Herb
