Animals of the Canadian Rockies: Elk

Animals of the Canadian Rockies: Elk
Another taken from our moving bus near Johnson Canyon.

'The elk or wapiti is one of the largest species within the deer family, Cervidae, and one of the largest terrestrial mammals in North America and Northeast Asia. This animal should not be confused with the still larger moose to which the name "elk" applies in British English and in reference to populations in Eurasia.' Wikipedia

As you know Keith -all this is down to luck and lighting. Had I been sitting on the other side I would never have got it. Glad you liked it. ~ Herb

That's also a great shot. When I was in Canada I wasn't in the mountain, only along the Saint Lawrence River and at Niagara Falls. The only animals I saw were goose on the lake and a raccoon neear the falls.

Thanks for another visit Daniela. I guess, if it is wild animals and wilderness you want to see it has to be the East coat not the west. We are going to the East of USA & Canada next year!
I have never seen a raccoon though!
Cheers, Herb

The raccon I saw was near Niagara Falls. He was trying to open a trash bin, that was closed with a chain :-)
