A vision of Stromness

A vision of Stromness
Stromness on the Orkney Islands is the setting for this colourful view. Taken fom the Orkney -Scrabster ferry: Hamnavoe.

Having just been reminded of my visit to this wonderful Island, I thought you might like an re-airing of this rather artful interpretation of the famous little harbour town here. Originally on Panoramio.

Enjoy full screen on black.

A fitting tribute in sound: Fairwell to Stromness music best listened to whilst viewing this full screen.

Another to please you Maurice. I always thought the hdr treatment here gave this scene an even better air of Scandinavian flavour. Glad you liked it. ~ Herb

That's great Herb , nothing wrong with being 'arty' when it looks good.

Another to grab you Richard. As a wannabe artist (I dabble with water-colours) I have always enjoyed adding a little bit to nature and mans scenery when I thought it made a bit of an artistic statement. Just like the great landscape painters, their canvas hardly ever reflected everything as it really was. So it is with pleasure I read your comment here. As I do these things, its a case of a little, taste good but too much.....

This is really quite beautiful Herb.................it has a very painterly look to it. The quality of the light is really lovely, especially where it reflects on the water!

Outstanding!

Hi again Keith. The original of this looked a little dry and so I went a little wild with my editing techniques. Fortunately, as was and still is to some degree, I took three exposures of this and so could play a little with HDR. The red, of course, has been slightly up-graded :) A very popular photo that has now been in all my sites: Panoramio, YouPic, Flickr and 500px. Ipernity being the last one. Anyway -I blabber... glad you liked it mate. ~ Herb

Thanks Diana. We have an oil painting of a harbour scene here at home and it has a similar look to this. Very happy that you enjoyed it.

... yes, an eye-catching "pop" of red ... a nice harborside view and great clouds ...

(Oh, Andy Rodker told me that "u" must stay in harbours on your side of the Atlantic.)

Ah yes, I have always loved a great harbour view. ( Like you, I have to keep telling my spelling checker not to change it to your harbor) Great that you liked this rather artful rendition. Great that our hobby allows us to do that too.

Hi Herb

I really like this!!!

Superb colours especially the little red house.

I visited Lerwick in the Shetlands many years ago (for work), but that was in the pre digital age, so nothing to share, and nothing anywhere near as good as this anyway!!

Best Wishes, and a good weekend

Another visit another great reflection from you here. This place was a wonder and I was so pleased to capture it like this, although my seascape shots sailing into Stromness were exciting too. I have never gone as far as the Shetlands and I must admit that it does not look quite as exciting as this but... Like you, I have many photos done in print only -now languishing in faded colours. I think some times, perhaps I should scan some of the many negatives that I still posses. Anyway -glad you liked it.
