Canada Goose attack

Canada Goose attack
Seen at a local canal basin. The first goose here was being chased away by the second one after swimming too close to a nest. I was not sure if the attacker was the female or male but it seemed to mean business here. During this canal side stroll we saw several more nests (see pip) all having a parent sat in them so presumably on eggs.

Enjoy

Cämmerer zu Nau, , Andy Rodker, Uli F. and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

How nice is the nature.

Yes its good to see nature in the raw, so to speak. It can be rough at times as we can see here. We have previously seen wild swans drowning ducklings methodically one at a time when a mother duck and her siblings ventured too close to a swans nest. So it is.

I have often tried to get these geese in flight like this but never quite had my camera handy so near. I nearly got it perfect here but a little faster shutter speed would have been better.

Regards and thanks for liking this with me. Herb

In nature I am afraid it is not the season of goodwill Herb.

You are right Maurice, nature can be very rough at times. I doubt that these adults would cause serious injury to one another but they would and do to smaller ducks and wildfowl.

WOOOO!!! Great timing!! Yikes!! I have seen geese attacking others and it's never a pleasant thing! I loved the sitting goosey too, so cute! :D

Thanks for this Janet. I know that you live in the wilds and so you will also have seen other things like this. One expects some animals to attack others but not so much birds and waterfowl. Glad you liked mummy goose.

Hi Herb

I really like this superb action shot!!!

Of course if you are threatened by a wild animal, there are no 'Marquess of Queensbury rules', law of the jungle applies!! (Or law of the canal.. or whatever!)

Best Wishes, and a good weekend

Good that you like a rare action shot from me Peter. When I fist started photography I took a lot of action ie motor car racing etc but now its all here in nature. As you say - this is how nature really works -not so much lovy-duvy as we sometimes think.
