Reach to the skies

Reach to the skies
A walk up my local 'Chew Valley' brings me to a favourite tree again. Each time it seems to have grown a bit taller. Just behind me there is snow on the ground. The sky, not only showing the flight path of an earlier aeroplane to Manchester but also the first signs of Storm Gareth. The tree -a Silver Birch, is beautifully lit here by a low subdued sun just showing itself over Indians Head, also behind me.
Enjoy large.

The tree certainly has photogenic quality and nice to see some replanting after last years devastating fires.

Thanks Maurice, good that you seem to have enjoyed my tree. I have a feeling that those new trees, only about 500 yards further up here were planted before the fires. I did see signs of recent moorland fire in the next gully to this though from only a month or so ago. ((from the warm spell.)

One of the benefits of winter you are able to see the unclothed tracery of the branches and twigs

Sure it Peter. I must admit to enjoying seeing trees like this at this time of year -quite nude :)

Wow! That's quite a thin, but beautiful, tree Herb! It must be tougher than it looks to withstand the recent winds! A gorgeous picture and a very nice PiP too. Cheers, Rosa.

Thanks Rosa, people who have been following my pictures since Panoramio know full well that I was an avid photographer of tree portraits. Not as many nowadays, certainly not here in Ipernity. As you say about the winds, it is particularly windy around here as winds drive down through the steep valley and over the high moor. There trees are very hardy. Glad you like the Pip.

Heavenly light and wonderful earthy colours Herb. The slender lone tree is absolutely perfect!

Thanks for enjoying this Keith. Yes, i too liked the harmonic background colours here as well as the shining light on the bark of this tree. It always feels to me that they are reaching up on tip-toe perhaps.

Perfect shot the tracery of branches is quite magnificent, the effect of the plans almost looks like low snowy hills at a very quick glance. worth remembering these type of trees have a few myself.

Thanks a lot Steve and your photographic reminder here puts to me a reminder too that this may well be a good background for my stars-if I ever see them again :) As you say, the clouds do look a bit like snowy hills - you may have seen that there was snow about, via the Pip here.

Cheers and thanks, Herb

Thanks Peter. I used to look for these trees, a bit like I look for fences now and had many, but the fashion grew colder as time went on. As you rightly say 'The lone tree' is a great theme. I think it has been used once or twice for our Ipernity SPC/CWP competitions already. Glad you enjoyed it.
