Torc Waterfall, Killarney National Park

Torc Waterfall, Killarney National Park
Just a few miles from Ladies View and the Lower Lake in the same Park is this splendid waterfall. At the base of the Torc mountain the Owengarriff River drains from the Devil's Punchbowl corrie lake on Mangerton Mountain. The highest fall, shown here, is a 20m drop, with the whole cascade being 110m.
Enjoy full screen.

Thanks John. I had to bend low for this and so no tripod using the tiny rock I was stood on-shutter around 1/60th but it worked well for me.

I love the warm light on the tips of the trees and the low angle gives an impression of powerful water, which I'm sure it was. It's a beautiful place and picture Herb......Regards, Rosa.

Nice to see you again Rosa. I guess I was lucky that the light managed to get onto the high trees as well as on this section of the lower falls too. It was most impressive, which attracted an awful lot of other visitors beside ourselves here. I had to wait my turn to get to that low stone for this. We also took the many steps to the very top of the falls and beyond -hard work and not really worth the effort for us as you could hardly see the falls through the trees. Anyway -good exercise, as they say...

Well worth the wait to get that magnificent point of view. I love the way you've used the portrait orientation - it makes us focus immediately on the waterfall.

You've also captured the movement of the water very well, I like its rich peaty colour which shows best in the foreground. Beautifully done Herb.

Herb Riddle club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thanks Keith, a bit of a ramble to get here but well worth the effort once here. Portrait style was the natural way for this high waterfall, the big d.o.f created by my super wide angle 16mm here. As Toz below says, the peat mountains slopes very much in evidence in the water. Glad you like it. ~ Herb

Hi Toz, good that you have enjoyed this one. Yes, this taken at a super-fast 60th sec instead of the mandatory 10th or less. I could not get the tripod down to this rock. I did take a slower one from a higher viewpoint but I liked this viewpoint better. (I might post that elsewhere :) )

Great shot , I note a very high rate of tannin's in the area, I know this photo was not taken in OZ way tooo much water . Love the old autumn leaves in the water to a a real touch of colour.

Herb Riddle club has replied to Steve Paxton club
Thanks Steve, as you say a lot of tannin due to the amount of peat in this area. A great deal of water here but there would have been far more a couple of days later as it deluged down for 24 hours the day after our visit. Always the odd leaf in the falls as so many trees overhang.
